The theme for the five-day meeting was “True Justice Demands Mercy.” The sisters reminded each other of the theme of the meeting, by singing throughout the time together the refrain of the song composed by S Veronica Marie Lucero “Go and do mercy, go and be mercy, go and live mercy with all!”
Beginning the day with a retreat experience based on a Theological Reflection of non-violence, the 17 sisters pondered their own life experience in light of Scripture, the writings of St. Francis, Blessed Angela and contemporary writers. They shared with each other how insights into their past will shape their future efforts in speaking, acting, and thinking non-violently. A workshop on intercultural communication engaged the sisters in understanding aspects of effective communication, extremely important in international communities. On Sunday, Dr. Nasir Khan, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Buffalo, gave a presentation on Islam.
